Following a trip to the Antarctic to see the effects of climate change, a primary school head teacher in Walton-on-Thames initiated an ambitious programme of sustainable energy work which included the installation of high performance Alwitra Evalon® Solar roof panels from ICB on a new teaching block.

On track to receive a BREEAM outstanding rating, the Ashley Primary School is providing a lesson in sustainability with Evalon® Solar roof panels providing electricity, energy efficient lighting, a biomass boiler providing heat, and eight solar thermal panels warming the water for a small swimming pool and the hot water system.

Single ply Evalon® Solar 408 panels were specified by architect FDG because of the lightweight construction of the new teaching block and the fact that the roofing membrane can lie flush with the barrel vaulted roof creating a near invisible installation. This truly building integrated product combines the weatherproofing membrane with the PV cells.

In total, twelve Evalon® Solar 408 panels in slate grey were used by specialist contractor SW Roofing Ltd. The panels were mechanically fixed around other energy saving measures including solar thermal panels and sun pipes to maximise daylight. With huge potential for large scale coverage, the panels are ready to be electrically connected which means there is no need to pierce the membrane for the connection of cables.

Electricity on a roll is the simplest way of describing the award winning roofing membrane Evalon® Solar from ICB. Noted for its high performance, this single ply roofing system is the most advanced in the world and with the help of ICB's experienced and skilled staff can be tailored to practically any design.

Ideal for any climate, this flexible photovoltaic roof is capable of producing up to 20% more output than other more common crystalline cell types. Generating power from both the sun or diffused light, the advanced PV cells can provide 3704kWh of energy per year.

Any surplus electricity generated by Evalon® Solar roofing can be sold directly to power companies, drawing in revenue from the sun's energy. It's the only roofing product that can pay for itself.

Integrated building products allow for easier planning permission making the innovative Evalon® Solar an ideal solution for both weatherproofing and energy requirements. Every ICB roof is protected by a comprehensive guarantee that gives cover for up to twenty years.

Following the successful installation of the panels on the Ashley Primary School roof, ICB Solar will soon be installing a second PV array using the same technology on a further new build addition within the school grounds.
